Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CDF), held a crucial meeting with Ulema from the Ahl-e-Tasheeh community in Rawalpindi on March 19, 2026. The Field Marshal underscored the significant responsibility of Ulema in promoting tolerance and national cohesion, particularly in countering misinformation, sectarian divides, and external efforts to destabilize Pakistan. He emphasized Pakistan’s unyielding stance against the use of Afghan soil for launching terrorist attacks, reaffirming the nation’s commitment to eliminating terrorist infrastructure through intelligence-led operations. He called on the Afghan Taliban to take proactive measures to prevent their territory from being used to harm Pakistan.

Field Marshal Munir also discussed Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions in the region. The Field Marshal emphasized that religious sentiments should not be manipulated to justify violence, particularly when driven by incidents abroad.
The Ulema who attended the meeting expressed their unwavering commitment to peace, stability, and unity. They strongly condemned the use of religion to justify violence and extended their full support to Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace and order.
