Army chief visits Muzaffarabad, pays tribute to Kashmir martyrs

MUZAFFARABAD, Feb 5, 2026 — Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Staff Syed Asim Munir on Wednesday visited Muzaffarabad, where he paid homage to the martyrs of the Kashmir freedom movement and reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued political, moral and diplomatic support for the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army chief laid a wreath at the Jammu and Kashmir Martyrs Monument and offered prayers in remembrance of those who laid down their lives in the struggle.

During an interaction with local notables and veterans, he said that ongoing human rights violations in IIOJK had failed to weaken the resolve of the Kashmiri people. He reiterated that Pakistan would continue to raise the Kashmir issue at international forums until a just settlement is achieved in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

The army chief also reviewed the operational readiness of troops deployed in the region, praising their morale and professionalism despite challenging conditions. He stressed the importance of vigilance and coordination to effectively deter any hostile action.

Later, he visited a forward post along the Line of Control and interacted with frontline troops, reaffirming that Pakistan’s armed forces remain fully prepared to respond decisively to any aggression.
