Anusha Rahman reviews progress on NSIT City project in Punjab

LAHORE: Senior Advisor to the Chief Minister Punjab, Senator Anusha Rahman, on Thursday chaired a high-level meeting at the Chief Minister’s Office to review progress on the Nawaz Sharif IT City (NSIT City) project and assess steps for its timely implementation.

Review follows site visit to NSIT City

The meeting followed Senator Anusha Rahman’s visit on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, to NSIT City, Pakistan’s first large-scale IT-focused urban development project. During the visit, she reviewed on-ground progress and discussed construction quality and planning priorities with project officials. She stressed the need to expedite work on the project’s first phase through improved coordination with regulatory authorities and the use of modern construction methods.

CBD Punjab briefs on scope and implementation

During the meeting, CEO CBD Punjab Imran Amin, along with COO Brigadier (R) Mansoor Janjua and senior officials, briefed the advisor on the project’s scope, planning framework, licensing structure, and implementation status. Officials stated that NSIT City is planned as a technology-focused development intended to attract investment and create employment opportunities for skilled professionals and startups.

Licensing framework and facilitation for investors discussed

Participants reviewed proposals related to the issuance of licenses for developers and discussed mechanisms to accelerate development. Senator Anusha Rahman directed relevant departments to resolve procedural delays and facilitate companies investing in NSIT City.

Incentives for NSIT City investors reaffirmed

The Senator Anusha Rahman reiterated that investors in NSIT City would be eligible for government-approved incentives, including exemptions on income tax and customs duties for up to ten years. She instructed officials to address any administrative issues affecting the implementation of these incentives.

Focus on IT ecosystem and future projects

Senator Anusha Rahman also emphasized strengthening linkages between industry and academia and focusing on emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and advanced digital infrastructure. She said that additional IT cities are planned in south, central, and north Punjab and directed departments to complete land identification for these projects.

Digital Economy Authority and collaboration plans outlined

The meeting was informed that a Digital Economy Authority is being established in Punjab to support growth in the digital sector. Officials also discussed plans for national and international collaboration to promote technology transfer, innovation, and workforce development.

Secretary Information Technology Department Zaheer Hassan, CEO CBD Punjab Imran Amin, Ali Waqar Shah, and other senior officials attended the meeting. Chairman Pakistan Special Technology Zones Authority Afzar Manzoor joined the session via video link.
