KARACHI: A Pakistani export company, Impex Pakistan, has been named among the global top 20 finalists at the New Power Award, an international competition organized by Alibaba.com, following its conclusion in Hangzhou, China.

The award competition, held on December 22, brought together exporters from multiple countries to examine emerging trends in digital trade and business transformation.

New Power Award finalists selected from global competition

According to organizers, the New Power Award recognizes export enterprises demonstrating digital operational capability, export performance, and innovative business approaches. This year marked the first time the competition was opened to sellers worldwide, with around 500 candidates evaluated through multiple rounds before approximately 20 finalists were selected.

Debate format highlights challenges facing exporters

The final round featured a debate-style format focusing on key issues affecting exporters, including scaling versus premium positioning, individual agility versus team structures, the role of artificial intelligence, and different models of global expansion.

Pakistani exporter shares digital growth experience

Haider Ali, Chief Executive Officer of Impex Pakistan, represented Pakistan at the global finals of New Power Award. He outlined how his company adopted a digital-first approach to expand its export operations, including the use of AI-based tools available on Alibaba.com to manage product listings and buyer communications across multiple markets.

According to Ali, the company was able to expand its reach to buyers in more than 30 countries by automating routine e-commerce processes, allowing a small team to manage increased international demand.

Focus on technology and human decision-making

Ali said that while artificial intelligence supported operational efficiency, business growth continued to rely on human judgment and trust in international trade relationships. He described technology as a tool that supports, rather than replaces, entrepreneurial decision-making.

Alibaba.com outlines exporter support strategy

Commenting on the event, Shawn Yang, General Manager of Global Development at Alibaba.com, said the award platform allows exporters from different regions to exchange ideas and explore methods for adapting to digital trade.

He said Alibaba.com aims to support exporters by providing digital tools and methodologies that help businesses access international markets more effectively.
