MUZAFFARABAD: Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Forest Minister Colonel (retd) Waqar Ahmed Noor has announced strict and immediate action against illegal logging, encroachments and other unlawful activities damaging forests across the region.
Soon after assuming the Forest Ministry in the AJK cabinet, the minister issued directives aimed at strengthening forest protection and ensuring prompt action against activities threatening the state’s valuable forest resources.
Colonel (retd) Waqar Ahmed Noor urged citizens to report instances of illegal tree cutting, encroachment or other forest-related violations directly to the Forest Department. He said members of the public could submit written complaints along with photographs through his WhatsApp number 0342-7111333.
“Protecting forests is our collective responsibility,” the minister said, emphasizing that no compromise would be made on the protection of the region’s natural resources.
He directed the relevant authorities to ensure that complaints received regarding illegal activities are acted upon promptly and that individuals found responsible are dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.
“Our forests are our future,” the minister said, stressing that protecting forests, preserving the natural environment and keeping AJK green and healthy were shared responsibilities of both the government and the public.
He further instructed officials to strengthen field monitoring, surveillance and enforcement against illegal activities affecting forests and to ensure timely intervention wherever violations are detected.
The minister reiterated that the government would not tolerate actions that damage the region’s forests and pledged to uphold the rule of law in protecting AJK’s forest resources.
Forests are vital for biodiversity, watershed protection, soil conservation and climate resilience. Strong enforcement, combined with public participation and responsible forest management, can help protect these ecosystems from degradation and ensure their benefits for future generations.
