A tiger has been confirmed in Maharashtra’s Beed district for the first time in nearly a century, stunning wildlife officials and residents. The four-year-old male, weighing more than 200 kilograms, was captured by a camera trap in the Brahmgaon forest range of Ashti tehsil.
Forest officials believe the tiger travelled hundreds of kilometres through several districts after leaving Tipeshwar Wildlife Sanctuary in 2023. Its journey reportedly took it through Telangana, Nanded, Latur and Dharashiv before reaching Beed, where its presence had not been confirmed since records from the 1910s and 1920s.
Officials say the tiger has not attacked any humans so far, but villagers and livestock owners have been advised to avoid forest and hilly areas frequented by the animal. The extraordinary return has sparked fresh interest in wildlife movement and habitat connectivity across the region.
