Abu Dhabi is set to become the world’s first city to operate air taxis, with plans to launch the service by the end of 2025. The city has signed an agreement with U.S.-based company Archer Aviation to develop Electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft.
If the project is successful, Archer’s Midnight craft, which can carry four passengers, will transport people between multiple “vertiports” across the city, cutting travel time by up to 80%.
According to a company spokesperson, the Midnight aircraft’s safety features are comparable to those of commercial airliners, and while flying at high altitudes, it produces 100 times less noise than a helicopter.
