Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has claimed that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has won the maximum number of seats in the 2024 general elections.
Speaking on a private television channel, he described PTI as a political reality and pointed to its electoral success.
The former leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has announced the formation of a new political party, which includes former finance minister Miftah Ismail and former senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar.
He said that the new party will not carry the name of Pakistan Muslim League.
Describing the process of party registration, Abbasi said that the new party will start functioning in 4-6 weeks. He opened discussions with figures like Lashkar Raisani and Khawaja Hoti, considering the possibility of naming the Pakistan Muslim League. But, in the end, they refused.
On matters of governance, the former prime minister supports judicial independence and systemic reforms. He criticized the work of the current government and emphasized the need for effective government and parliamentary functioning.
Former PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif said that he has sentenced Hakim Imran Khan to jail.
The PTI founder said that the chairman should bring the party into the political mainstream and added that PTI’s participation cannot be denied because it won the maximum number of seats.
Abbasi is not skeptical of the government’s performance and says that a 16-month cabinet tenure will not yield the desired results. Abbasi called for improving governance to effectively address the country’s challenges.
