A picture taken from space shows the Burj Khalifa—can you spot it?

NASA astronaut Don Pettit, aboard the International Space Station (ISS), shared a unique image of the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa. What makes this image special is that it was captured from space through the ISS’s camera.

The image shows the city of Dubai glowing with lights at night. Pettit shared the picture on X (Twitter), explaining that it was taken from 400 kilometers above Earth’s surface. The caption reads, “This is the world’s tallest building, Burj Khalifa, as seen from space.”

Another image was also released with a closer zoom of the city, making it easier to identify the Burj Khalifa. The astronaut’s picture also shows the Palm Jumeirah, the artificial island shaped like a palm tree, which is located in the left corner of the image.

According to Pettit, the photo was taken in September 2024. The construction of the Burj Khalifa began in 2004 and it was opened to the public in January 2010. It has held the title of the world’s tallest building since then and is expected to maintain this distinction for several more years.
