Riyan Parag’s sensational unbeaten knock of 84 off just 45 deliveries took Rajasthan Royals to an impressive total of 185-5 to seal a thrilling 12-run win over Delhi Capitals in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) in Jaipur on Thursday.
Electing to field first after winning the toss, the Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals looked to be in control for much of the match and stifled Rajasthan’s batting line-up early on. Despite losing key wickets, including explosive openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler and skipper Sanju Samson, Rajasthan found a savior in Parag.
At a shaky 36-3 in the eighth over, Rajasthan added momentum with the support of Ravichandran Ashwin, who combined with Parag for a vital 54-run partnership. Ashwin contributed a brisk 29 off 19 balls before falling to Axar Patel in the 14th over.
Often criticized for his shot selection in previous seasons, Parag showed maturity and poise as he anchored the innings. He forged another crucial partnership with Dhruv Jurel and led Rajasthan to a competitive unit. Parag’s fifty came off 34 balls and he ended the innings with a flurry of boundaries off Anrich Nortje, aided by a Shimron Hetmyer cameo.

Rajasthan captain Samson praised Parag’s match-winning performance and acknowledged his potential to contribute significantly to Indian cricket in the future.
In response, Delhi Capitals got off to a good start with Mitchell Marsh and David Warner laying a solid foundation. However, the Rajasthan bowlers, led by Avesh Khan and supported by Yuzvendra Chahal and Nandre Burger, struck at crucial intervals and curtailed Delhi’s progress.
Despite a valiant effort from Tristan Stubbs towards the end, Delhi fell short of the target, giving Rajasthan Royals a deserved victory. Avesh Khan’s close finish sealed victory for Rajasthan, leaving Delhi skipper Pant disappointed but determined to learn from the experience.
