The federal government announced the creation of the National Cyber Emergency Response Team (CERT) on Tuesday.
The initiative aims to strengthen the country’s defenses against the growing threat of cyber attacks and provide basic awareness and safeguards to protect digital assets and critical infrastructure.
The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications has issued a notice on the establishment of the National CERT. This dedicated team, operating under the Pakistan Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) and CERT rules, will serve as a key entity within the national cyber security framework.
Over the years, the National Telecommunications and Information Technology Security Board (NTISB) has diligently led projects aimed at strengthening cybersecurity measures. The culmination of these efforts was the creation of a national CERT, equipped with skilled manpower and cutting-edge technology.
Key components of a national CERT include the acquisition of essential software and hardware that lay the foundation for a robust cybersecurity infrastructure. In addition, the launch of a dedicated website serves as a central hub for the dissemination of important information and resources related to cyber threat mitigation and prevention.
