BEIJING: China supports the Maldives in safeguarding sovereignty and cooperating with other countries on the basis of equality, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said on Tuesday.
Responding to a question about the withdrawal of the first batch of Indian troops from the Maldives during his regular briefing, the spokesman said, I don’t know the details. However, he said the Chinese side supports the Maldives in safeguarding sovereignty and cooperating with other countries on the basis of equality.

Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu came to power in September when he vowed to kick out Indian security personnel deployed in the country to patrol its vast maritime border.
