Maulana Fazlur Rehman, chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal (JUI-F), addressed the general council of JUI Punjab and stressed the need for a united opposition against electoral irregularities. He urged Shehbaz Sharif to ally with the opposition and protect himself from potential problems.
He accused political parties of orchestrating electoral fraud rather than the establishment. Highlighting the pervasive issue of corruption, the JUI-F chief said there was evidence of financial coercion against their candidates, casting doubt on the integrity of the election process. Expressing his concern over the state of democracy, Mr. Rehman said that Parliament has been reduced to a mere exhibition institution and democracy is gradually losing its credibility.
During the council meeting, a unanimous resolution was passed by JUI Punjab, condemning the February 8 elections and institutional interference. The resolution underscores the determination of JUI Punjab to spearhead the movement against electoral malpractices, signaling a concerted effort to address systemic issues and uphold democratic principles.
