India reasserted their dominance in the U19 cricket arena, securing a remarkable fifth consecutive World Cup final berth with a thrilling two-wicket triumph over South Africa in Benoni on Tuesday.
The intense encounter took place in Benoni where the defending champions, who decided to chase after winning the toss, showed their mettle against the host nation.
In the semi-final showdown, the crowd was treated to an enthralling display of skill and determination as India faced the tough task of catching up to the South African side.
Despite early setbacks, with the scoreboard reading 32/4 in the 12th over, the Indian team, led by the dynamic duo of captain Uday Saharan (81) and Sachin Dhas (96), staged a stunning comeback.
South Africa’s Kwena Maphaka abandoned an early strike when she claimed the wicket of Adarsh Singh in the opening match, while Tristan Luus added two more crucial dismissals to India’s woes in his opening spell. However, Saharan and Dhas joined forces to form a remarkable partnership that brought India back into contention.

The turning point came in the 43rd over when Maphaka dismissed Dhas. Still, the resilient pair of Saharan and Raj Limbani ensured a level finish. Limbani nervously struck the winning runs off the second last ball of the 49th over to secure India’s place in the final and extend their dominance in the U-19 World Cup.
South Africa’s innings, marked by a strong start and later pressure from the Indian spinners, saw Lhuan-dre Pretorius top score with 76 runs. Late contributions from Tristan Luus took South Africa’s total to 244/7.
With the final showdown scheduled for Sunday, November 11, India will eagerly await the winner between Pakistan and Australia in the second semi-final on February 8.
