KP Police Warn Families Over Wedding Photography And Video Risks

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police have issued a security advisory urging families to exercise extreme caution when taking photographs and videos during wedding ceremonies.

According to the advisory, families should be particularly careful when photographing or recording their mothers, sisters and daughters, as personal images and videos can potentially be misused on social media or by online blackmailers.

Police warned that a moment of carelessness could result in serious consequences, particularly as cybercriminals increasingly use technology to manipulate private photographs and videos.

Officials highlighted the growing threat of fake and deepfake content, which can be created using genuine photographs or videos and then used to intimidate or blackmail individuals and families.

The warning comes as the wedding season gets underway with the arrival of winter across Pakistan. Police noted that the risks associated with manipulated images, videos and digital blackmail can increase during a period when wedding photography and video recording become more common.

Blackmailers may threaten victims with the release of private or manipulated content, potentially causing severe emotional and psychological distress.

The KP Police have therefore urged families to take digital privacy seriously and ensure that personal photographs and videos captured at wedding functions are handled and stored securely.

The advisory also serves as a reminder for families to carefully consider who is permitted to photograph or record private moments during wedding celebrations and how the resulting material is stored or shared.
