ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Water has intensified enforcement against restaurants, hotels, cafés and fast-food outlets that have failed to install proper oil and grease traps or maintain and clean them regularly.
During field inspections, the authorities have issued challans to businesses found violating the requirements, according to an official statement.
The initiative aims to prevent kitchen waste, cooking oil and grease from entering the city’s sewerage network, where they can cause recurring blockages, sewage overflows and sanitation-related problems.
Food Businesses Directed to Follow SOPs
Islamabad Water has directed all restaurants, hotels, cafés and fast-food outlets across the capital to install appropriate oil and grease traps in accordance with prescribed standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Businesses have also been instructed to ensure the regular cleaning and maintenance of these systems so that fats, oils and grease from kitchens do not flow directly into sewer lines.
Oil and grease traps help separate fats and cooking residues from wastewater before it enters the sewerage system, reducing the risk of blockages and helping improve sanitation.
Legal Action to Continue
Islamabad Water said enforcement operations would continue across the capital and that legal action would be taken against businesses found violating the requirements.
The campaign seeks to encourage responsible waste disposal by food businesses, protect sewerage infrastructure and reduce sanitation problems caused by improper discharge of kitchen waste.
