Bollywood actor and UNDP India’s National Advocate for the Sustainable Development Goals, Bhumi Pednekar, has used the United Nations General Assembly platform to call for urgent action on the climate crisis. Speaking during UNGA 81, she stressed that climate change is already affecting people and communities around the world rather than being a distant threat.
Pednekar has increasingly used her public profile to promote environmental awareness and sustainable development. Her climate advocacy has included highlighting the importance of individual and collective action, while her previous humanitarian efforts have included support for communities affected by climate-related disasters. At the UN, she urged greater attention to those already experiencing the consequences of a changing climate, reinforcing the need to turn awareness into meaningful action.
