LAHORE: The Punjab Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has intensified enforcement against brick kilns violating anti-smog standard operating procedures (SOPs), inspecting 374 kilns and imposing fines totalling Rs5 million as part of efforts to support a Smog-Free Punjab.
According to the enforcement figures shared by the agency, authorities issued three smog-related notices, demolished two kilns and sealed five others for violations. One First Information Report (FIR) was also registered during the crackdown.
The enforcement campaign aims to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and curb emissions from brick kilns, which can contribute to air pollution when they operate without appropriate emission-control measures.

Brick kiln emissions are among the sources that environmental authorities monitor during smog-control operations in Punjab. Strict compliance with prescribed SOPs, effective kiln technology and regular inspections are important measures in reducing harmful emissions and improving air quality.
The Punjab EPA has warned that strict action will continue against kiln operators found violating applicable environmental requirements under the province’s Smog-Free Punjab initiative.
Citizens have been urged to report environmental violations by calling the helpline 1373.
The campaign forms part of broader efforts to control pollution sources and protect public health during periods of deteriorating air quality.
