UPPER DIR, October 15, 2026: Intermittent rain for a second consecutive day has brought a sharp drop in temperatures across Dir city and its surrounding plain and mountainous areas, while light snowfall has been reported on high-altitude peaks, signalling an early arrival of winter in the region.
According to local reports, light snowfall was recorded in the mountainous areas of Kumrat Valley, Jaz Banda, Badgoi Top and Lowari Top, while low-lying areas received heavy rain. The changing weather has significantly lowered temperatures, prompting residents to bring out warm clothing and blankets and begin using heaters.
The sudden cold spell has also boosted demand for firewood in local markets. Shopkeepers reported that sales have doubled over the past two days as households prepare for colder conditions.
More Rain And Snowfall Expected
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast that the current westerly weather system will continue to bring intermittent rain until October 15. Further snowfall is expected in upper mountainous areas, potentially causing temperatures to fall further.
The weather conditions may also affect traffic movement at Lowari Top, particularly if snowfall intensifies or road conditions deteriorate.
Authorities Advise Caution For Travellers
The district administration has advised tourists and local drivers to take precautionary measures when travelling to upper areas. Travellers are encouraged to monitor official weather updates, check road conditions before departure and remain cautious on rain-soaked and potentially slippery mountain routes.
The latest spell of rain and snowfall highlights the rapid seasonal changes in Upper Dir, where colder weather can affect travel, daily activities and access to mountainous tourist destinations.
