Punjab Green Credit Programme Offers Financial Rewards for Eco-Friendly Actions

LAHORE, October 15, 2026 — The Punjab government is encouraging citizens to adopt environmentally friendly practices through the Chief Minister Punjab Green Credit Programme, which offers financial rewards for verified activities aimed at reducing pollution, conserving resources and promoting sustainability.

According to the programme information shared by the government, the initiative covers 38 green activities, ranging from cycling and renewable energy adoption to plastic recycling, tree plantation and sustainable farming.

The scheme aims to encourage public participation in environmental protection by linking verified green actions with financial incentives.

Financial Incentives for Green Activities

The programme offers different rewards depending on the activity undertaken and the applicable verification requirements. The advertised incentives include:

  • Cycling: Up to Rs. 20,000 for cycling 75 kilometres.
  • Renewable energy and energy efficiency: Rs. 10,000 per green credit for eligible installations, including solar panels, solar geysers or energy-efficient devices.
  • Plastic recycling: Rs. 2,500 per kilogram for depositing plastic bottles, subject to a stated maximum reward of Rs. 10,000.
  • Electric mobility: Up to Rs. 100,000 for switching to an electric bike or scooter.
  • Tree plantation, recycling and green farming: Rewards ranging from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 100,000, depending on the eligible activity.

Other activities listed under the programme include rainwater harvesting, reporting smoke-emitting vehicles, identifying brick kilns operating without zigzag technology and planting saplings.

The range of activities is intended to encourage participation by individuals and communities in efforts to reduce emissions, improve waste management and conserve natural resources.

How Citizens Can Participate

The programme’s advertised registration process involves the following steps:

  1. Visit the official portal: “greencredit.punjab.gov.pk” (https://greencredit.punjab.gov.pk).
  2. Register and select an eligible environmental activity.
  3. Upload the required evidence of completing the activity.
  4. Have the submission verified by the relevant local authority.
  5. Receive payment once the activity is approved, according to the programme’s applicable rules.

Applicants should consult the official portal to confirm eligibility, documentation requirements, reward limits and payment conditions before undertaking an activity in expectation of a financial incentive.

Incentives Aim to Encourage Climate Action

Financial incentives can help make environmentally responsible choices more attractive to households and communities. Cycling and electric mobility can reduce transport-related emissions when they replace petrol-powered journeys, while renewable energy and energy-efficient equipment can help lower dependence on conventional energy sources.

Similarly, effective plastic recycling, rainwater harvesting and tree plantation can contribute to resource conservation and environmental improvement when supported by appropriate implementation and long-term maintenance.

The programme’s wider impact will depend on transparent verification, accessible participation and the sustained environmental benefits of the activities being rewarded.

By encouraging citizens to take practical steps, the Punjab Green Credit Programme seeks to turn environmental awareness into measurable action.
