FAO KP Session Highlights Gender-Responsive Climate Preparedness for Farmers

ISLAMABAD: The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has held a staff learning session on climate risks, anticipatory action and gender-responsive agriculture to strengthen preparedness for climate-related disasters and protect vulnerable farming communities.

The session, titled Climate Risk, Anticipatory Action and Gender-Responsive Agriculture, was facilitated by Mr Azmat Shahi, a practitioner in disaster risk financing and climate finance.

Participants explored climate-related risks and their effects on agricultural livelihoods, with a focus on taking timely action before disasters occur. Discussions highlighted the importance of effective early warning systems, advance planning and targeted interventions to reduce the impact of climate-related emergencies.

The session also stressed the need to include women and other vulnerable groups in climate preparedness and response efforts. Gender-responsive approaches can help ensure that farmers receive timely warnings, have access to relevant information and are better prepared to protect their livelihoods from floods, droughts and other climate-related threats.
