Forest Staff Praised for Protecting Forests and Combating Illegal Timber Trade

MIANWALI: Four forest department personnel, Shah Jahan Khan, Akramullah Khan Gulmeeri, Hafiz Sajjad Ahmed Khan and Attar Khan, have been praised for their efforts to protect forests, prevent illegal timber activities and safeguard natural resources despite difficult working conditions.

According to the appreciation message, the personnel continue to carry out patrols and monitoring duties in challenging terrain, often while facing limited resources and difficult circumstances. They have also reportedly received death threats from individuals opposed to action against illegal timber activities.

Despite these challenges, the staff have continued their efforts to prevent timber theft and take action against those involved in activities that damage forest resources.

Their regular patrols, monitoring and timely interventions have reportedly contributed to a significant reduction in timber theft in the area. The message also praised their actions against individuals involved in illegal logging and other activities harmful to forests.

Frontline forest personnel play an important role in protecting biodiversity, maintaining natural habitats and preventing the degradation of forest ecosystems. Their work also supports climate resilience, as forests absorb carbon dioxide, help regulate local temperatures and protect soil and water resources.

The appreciation message stressed that forest protection is not merely a government responsibility but a shared national duty. It called for continued support for forest staff and greater public cooperation to prevent illegal timber cutting and protect natural resources for future generations.

The services of the four personnel were recognised as an example of dedication to forest conservation and the protection of the country’s natural heritage.
