LAHORE: The monsoon season 2026 has ended in Punjab after bringing record rainfall to several parts of the province, with the provincial government saying drainage operations were completed within the shortest possible time despite the heavy rains.
According to the figures released by the Punjab government, Rawalpindi received 1,505 millimetres of rain during the season, followed by Lahore with 1,316mm and Sialkot with 1,256mm.
The government said that no major flooding occurred in any river of Punjab during the monsoon season. Water flows in all major rivers remained within normal levels, according to the provincial authorities.
However, heavy rainfall caused flooding in the Bhid and Dike nullahs in Sheikhupura, affecting 58 villages.
The Punjab government said it was working to compensate affected communities for losses to crops and houses caused by the flooding.
The end of the monsoon season has also highlighted the importance of drainage systems, flood preparedness and climate-resilient urban planning as extreme rainfall events place increasing pressure on cities and local infrastructure.
With rainfall patterns becoming more difficult to predict, effective drainage, early warning systems and stronger disaster preparedness remain important for reducing the risks to communities, agriculture and infrastructure.
