KP Launches Rs2.6 Billion Mobile Veterinary Programme to Support Farmers and Livestock Health

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has launched the “Ehsaas Be-Zuban Sehat Gaari” project at a cost of Rs2.6 billion to improve livestock health services and provide veterinary care to farmers in remote areas.

According to the provincial government, Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi inaugurated the initiative, which includes 145 mobile veterinary clinics, 27 mobile laboratory testing units and the deployment of 202 veterinary doctors and assistants.

The mobile veterinary clinics will operate at the tehsil level and provide vaccination, diagnosis, treatment and emergency veterinary services to livestock farmers.

The project also includes mobile milk-quality testing laboratories aimed at monitoring milk quality and helping detect adulteration.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said the initiative was not limited to providing mobile veterinary services but represented a commitment to ensuring that farmers in remote areas are not deprived of essential veterinary care because of geographical barriers.

He said modern and timely veterinary services would be brought closer to livestock-keeping communities, while the government’s broader objective was to prevent diseases, improve livestock productivity and support better incomes for farming families.

Healthy livestock can contribute to improved production and household incomes, making animal health an important part of rural livelihoods and the wider agricultural economy.

Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Livestock Khursheed Khattak, the Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Secretary Livestock, Director General Livestock and other relevant officials attended the inauguration ceremony.

The initiative is expected to strengthen access to veterinary services in underserved areas while supporting disease prevention, livestock productivity and the resilience of rural livelihoods.
