ISLAMABAD: The Simly Dam Reservoir has reached its Maximum Conservation Level of 2,315.30 feet (SPD), prompting authorities to partially open one gate of the main spillway to manage the reservoir level.
According to the latest notification, one spillway gate will be opened by two feet at 11pm today. The expected outflow is approximately 1,650 cusecs, which is around four percent of the spillway’s maximum discharge capacity.
All concerned departments and authorities have been informed to make the necessary arrangements in view of the controlled release of water.
Authorities are also conveying the information by telephone to downstream areas, following the established practice for such releases.
Warning sirens will be sounded to alert communities living downstream and help them take necessary precautions.
Residents in downstream areas are advised to follow instructions from the relevant authorities, avoid unnecessary movement near water channels and remain alert to official warnings during the water release.
Timely monitoring and controlled water releases are important for reservoir management and reducing risks to downstream communities during periods of high inflows.
