KUALA LUMPUR: Pakistan and Malaysia have discussed expanding cooperation in agriculture, food trade and Halal-certified products, with a focus on strengthening technical collaboration and market opportunities.
Federal Secretary for National Food Security and Research Amer Ali Ahmed and Federal Secretary for Commerce Jawad Paul, accompanied by Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Malaysia Syed Ahsan Raza Shah, met Datuk Seri Isham bin Ishak, Secretary-General of Malaysia’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
Senior agricultural and technical officials from both countries also participated in the meeting.
The discussions covered several areas of the Halal agri-food sector, including rice, meat and poultry, fisheries and aquaculture technologies, animal vaccines, biosecurity controls and the supply of Halal gelatine.
Both sides stressed the importance of stronger institutional links and explored practical opportunities to increase agricultural trade, technical cooperation and knowledge sharing between Pakistan and Malaysia.
The two countries also agreed to establish a formal mechanism for continued engagement, beginning with a joint virtual meeting scheduled for November.
Stronger cooperation in agriculture and food systems can support knowledge exchange, improve production and biosecurity practices, and create new opportunities for sustainable fisheries, aquaculture and agricultural trade.
The engagement reflects efforts by Pakistan and Malaysia to expand cooperation in safe, quality and Halal-certified food products while strengthening bilateral agricultural ties.
