LAYYAH: The Forest Department has launched another operation against illegal timber activities in Layyah, with officials seizing a vehicle loaded with timber allegedly stolen from government forests.
Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) Layyah Forest Division Dr Sajjad Haider Zaidi led the operation along with Forest Protection Officer Layyah Range Mian Abdul Aziz and other forest officials.
According to the Forest Department, the team conducted a surprise raid at a suspected hideout linked to the Farid Thori gang, where a vehicle loaded with timber was recovered.
The department said the timber was allegedly cut and removed illegally from government forests. The vehicle and recovered timber were taken into official custody, and legal proceedings have been initiated.
Dr Sajjad Haider Zaidi said action against illegal logging and those involved in the timber trade would continue. He said the department would take action against individuals and groups involved in damaging forest resources.
Illegal logging can contribute to the loss of forest cover, biodiversity and wildlife habitat, while also weakening ecosystems and increasing pressure on natural resources. Effective forest protection and enforcement are important for conserving Pakistan’s remaining forests and strengthening environmental resilience.
The Forest Department said it would continue monitoring forest areas and taking action against activities that threaten forest resources.
