The National Disaster Management Authority has issued a weather alert as heavy rain, thunderstorms and possible flash flooding are expected across parts of Pakistan through September 30. The weather system is affecting upper regions of the country.
Rain and thunderstorms are expected in Islamabad, upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. In KP, areas including Swat, Bajaur, Dir, Kohistan, Battagram and Mansehra are among those identified in the alert.
The NDMA has warned that heavy rainfall could cause sudden rises in water levels, flash floods and urban flooding in vulnerable areas. Citizens and tourists have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather, stay away from rivers and streams, and follow official weather and emergency advisories.
