ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) and WWF-Pakistan held an environmental awareness session at Islamabad Model School for Girls, Shahdara, to educate students about wildlife conservation and biodiversity.
More than 100 students participated in the session, which focused on the rich biodiversity of the Margalla Hills National Park and the importance of protecting its wildlife.
A special focus was placed on the pangolin, a vulnerable mammal facing threats from habitat loss and illegal wildlife trade. The session highlighted the need for greater public awareness and responsible behaviour to protect wildlife and natural habitats.
The Margalla Hills are home to a variety of plant and animal species and form an important natural ecosystem around Islamabad. Protecting these habitats also helps maintain biodiversity and strengthens the ecological health of the region.
Engaging young people in conservation awareness can help build a stronger culture of environmental responsibility. Students can play an important role in spreading awareness about wildlife protection and encouraging their communities to respect natural habitats.
The session highlighted the importance of environmental education in preparing the next generation to become responsible stewards of Pakistan’s biodiversity.
