LAHORE: The Environment Protection and Climate Change Department (EP&CCD), Government of Punjab, and The University of Lahore (UOL) have signed a Strategic Partnership Framework to promote environmental sustainability, climate action and green initiatives across the province.
The partnership also marked the inauguration of the UOL Miyawaki Forest, an urban greening initiative aimed at supporting biodiversity conservation and creating greener spaces within the university campus.
Miyawaki forests use dense plantation of native plant species to develop compact green areas in relatively small spaces. Such urban forests can provide shade, support biodiversity and contribute to healthier local environments.
The partnership is expected to encourage greater cooperation between government and academic institutions on environmental protection, climate action and sustainable development.
The UOL Miyawaki Forest also highlights the potential of urban greening as part of broader climate-resilient development efforts. Expanding green spaces in cities can help improve local environmental conditions while providing habitat for birds, insects and other species.
The initiative reflects the growing importance of collaboration between public institutions and universities in promoting practical environmental solutions and building a greener and more climate-resilient Punjab.
