ISLAMABAD, September 15, 2026: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a flood alert for several parts of the country, warning of possible flooding due to expected rainfall until September 17.
According to the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC), rainfall in parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Balochistan may increase the flow of rivers, streams and local waterways, creating a risk of flash floods and urban flooding.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, areas including Gilgit, Diamer, Ghizer, Ashkoman, Gupis-Yasin, Nagar, Hunza, Shimshal, Skardu and Shigar may face sudden flooding.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, flood risks have been identified in Upper Dir, Swat, Bajaur, Malakand, Kurram, Kohistan, Mohmand and Orakzai.
Parts of Balochistan, including Zhob, Sherani and Musakhel, may also experience flooding following heavy rainfall.
Islamabad and several areas of Punjab, including Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh and Sheikhupura, may face urban flooding, particularly in low-lying areas.
The NDMA has already alerted relevant departments and directed them to take precautionary measures and remain prepared to respond to any flood-related emergency.
The NEOC is monitoring potential risks and providing timely information to the public and concerned authorities as part of its early warning and disaster preparedness efforts.
The NDMA has advised people to avoid crossing rainwater drains, flooded roads, bridges and low-lying passages during heavy rainfall. People should also stay away from fast-flowing water and follow instructions from local authorities.
