UTHAL, LASBELA: A series of Community Leadership Management Skills Training (CLMST) workshops is being organized across Union Councils Ahora, Wayaro and Kehenwari in District Lasbela to strengthen the capacity of local communities affected by floods.
The training is being conducted under the “Rebuilding Lives of Flood-Affected Communities in District Lasbela Through Strengthened Resilience” project, with members of Village Development Committees (VDCs) participating in the capacity-building initiative.
The programme aims to engage members from 30 VDCs across the target areas. So far, 240 VDC members from 20 VDCs, including 160 men and 80 women, have participated in 10 two-day training workshops.
The CLMST sessions are designed to equip community representatives with practical skills needed to lead local development initiatives and respond more effectively to challenges facing their communities.
Key areas covered by the training include leadership and community development, conflict management, networking and coordination, and fund management. Strengthening these skills is expected to enable VDC members to improve decision-making, mobilize local resources and work collectively on community priorities.
The initiative places particular emphasis on strengthening community-led development and resilience in areas affected by floods. By building the leadership and management capacity of local institutions, the project seeks to ensure that communities are better equipped to identify their needs, plan development activities and manage available resources.
The participation of women in the workshops also contributes to more inclusive community-level decision-making, with 80 women already engaged in the training programme.
The CLMST initiative reflects the importance of investing in local leadership as part of long-term recovery and resilience building. Empowered Village Development Committees can play a vital role in coordinating community efforts, resolving local challenges and supporting preparedness for future shocks.
As the programme expands towards its target of 30 VDCs, the training is expected to further strengthen local capacities and promote more resilient, inclusive and self-reliant communities across District Lasbela.
