ISLAMABAD, September 8, 2026: The Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) hosted a seminar examining the prospects and challenges of Pakistan’s climate finance landscape, with experts stressing the need to move from fragmented financing mechanisms towards a coordinated and sustainable national system.
The seminar, titled “Pakistan’s Climate Finance Strategy: Prospects and Challenges,” brought together stakeholders to discuss how Pakistan can strengthen its capacity to mobilize financial resources for climate action and address growing investment requirements.
Dr. Muhammad Rafique, Member Finance, Pakistan Climate Change Authority, highlighted the National Climate Finance Strategy, describing its focus on establishing a coordinated and nationally owned framework for mobilizing and scaling up climate finance.
The discussion examined Pakistan’s climate investment needs and the importance of developing a strong pipeline of bankable climate projects capable of attracting both domestic and international financing.
Participants also discussed domestic resource mobilization and private-sector engagement as important components of a sustainable climate finance system. Strengthening institutional coordination and creating an enabling environment for private investment were highlighted as key areas for improving the country’s ability to finance climate resilience and low-carbon development.
The seminar also underscored the challenge of coordinating different sources of climate finance and aligning them with national priorities. A more integrated approach could help improve the effectiveness of available resources while supporting long-term climate and development objectives.
The session was moderated by Dr. Muhammad Faisal Ali, Assistant Professor at PIDE.
The seminar provided a platform for policy experts and stakeholders to examine practical pathways for strengthening Pakistan’s climate finance architecture and ensuring that climate investment is better aligned with the country’s emerging environmental and development challenges.
