CHITRAL, September 7, 2026: The Special Purpose Kalash Valleys Development Authority (SP-KVDA) has intensified cleanliness and hygiene efforts across the Kalash Valleys as part of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s campaign to improve environmental conditions and promote responsible waste management.
The initiative was carried out in light of the directions of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Khan Afridi and Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Malik Adil Khan. Officers and staff of SP-KVDA, under the leadership of the Director General, participated in a comprehensive cleanliness campaign covering the Authority’s office premises and adjoining areas.
During the campaign, staff removed plastic wrappers, solid waste, unwanted shrubs and overgrown grass. Drains and drainage channels were also cleaned to improve sanitation and prevent the accumulation of waste.
The participation of officers and staff reflected a strong sense of collective responsibility and highlighted the importance of making cleanliness and environmental protection part of everyday institutional practices.
Director General Highlights Plastic Recycling Message
The Director General also used the campaign to deliver a symbolic message about plastic pollution by wearing a shirt made from recycled plastic.
The initiative aimed to demonstrate how plastic waste, when improperly discarded, can pose serious threats to land, vegetation, wildlife and water ecosystems, including fish and other aquatic organisms.
At the same time, the message highlighted the potential of responsible waste management to turn discarded plastic into useful products through the principles of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
SP-KVDA officials said the cleanliness initiative forms part of the broader Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government campaign for improved sanitation, hygiene and environmental protection.
The Authority reiterated its commitment to maintaining clean public spaces, protecting the environment and promoting responsible waste management, with particular importance attached to the environmentally sensitive Kalash Valleys.
Cleanliness Efforts Expanded Across Kalash Valleys
SP-KVDA staff, sanitation workers and relevant field teams are also continuing cleanliness activities in different parts of the valleys. Officers are personally supervising field operations to ensure that sanitation work is carried out effectively and that public spaces remain clean and safe.
The initiative is particularly significant for the Kalash Valleys, where environmental quality is closely linked with the well-being of local communities and the region’s tourism appeal.
SP-KVDA emphasized that sustained public participation, proper waste disposal and effective recycling are essential for protecting the valleys’ natural environment.
