ISLAMABAD: Authorities have decided to open the spillways of Rawal Dam at 4pm today (September 4) as the reservoir’s water level has reached 1,751.40 feet following recent rainfall.
According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Media Wing, water flow in Korang Nullah is expected to increase after the spillways are opened.
Residents living in areas adjoining Korang Nullah have been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions due to the possibility of increased water flow.
The public has also been urged to avoid crossing the nullah or using temporary bridges constructed across the water channel, particularly when water flow becomes swift.
Authorities have emphasized that people should maintain a safe distance from the nullah and avoid unnecessary movement near waterways during the period of increased flow.
Residents in vulnerable and low-lying areas have been advised to remain vigilant and follow safety instructions issued by the district administration and relevant emergency response agencies.
The decision to release water from Rawal Dam comes amid continued rainfall and heightened monitoring of water levels and drainage channels in the Islamabad-Rawalpindi region.
