RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has launched an ambitious environmental initiative aimed at planting 10 billion trees as part of broader efforts to combat desertification, restore degraded ecosystems and strengthen the country’s climate resilience.
The large-scale programme seeks to restore around 75 million hectares of degraded land, with tree planting and ecosystem restoration expected to play a key role in improving the Kingdom’s environmental conditions.
The initiative focuses on several major environmental objectives, including slowing the expansion of desertified areas, restoring damaged ecosystems, improving air quality and supporting biodiversity.
Saudi Arabia’s tree-planting efforts form part of its broader environmental agenda to increase vegetation cover and address the impacts of climate change and land degradation in an arid region.
