ABBOTTABAD: Commissioner Hazara Division Shahidullah Khan has inaugurated the Monsoon Plantation Campaign 2026, with the Forest Department planning to plant 480,000 saplings at 16 locations across the Hazara region on August 14.
Shahidullah Khan launched the campaign by planting a Deodar sapling, highlighting the administration’s focus on increasing forest cover and promoting environmental conservation in the region.
480,000 Saplings to Be Planted
Chief Conservator of Forests-II Asghar Khan briefed the commissioner on ongoing plantation activities under the monsoon campaign and outlined the department’s future plans.
According to the briefing, a major plantation drive will be held across Hazara on August 14, with 480,000 saplings scheduled to be planted at 16 different sites.
The campaign aims to expand green cover, strengthen environmental resilience and support efforts to address climate-related challenges, including rising temperatures and environmental degradation.
Commissioner Stresses Sapling Protection
Commissioner Shahidullah Khan appreciated the Forest Department’s efforts and stressed that plantation should be followed by proper protection and maintenance of saplings to improve their survival and ensure long-term environmental benefits.
He also called for greater participation from local communities and relevant stakeholders in plantation and forest conservation activities, saying their involvement would help make the campaign more effective and sustainable.
Forest Department officials and the commissioner’s staff officer also attended the inauguration ceremony.
