LAHORE: The Environmental Monitoring Center (EMC) of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Government of Punjab, has expanded its environmental surveillance programme by introducing ambient noise monitoring alongside its ongoing city-wide air quality monitoring initiative.
The move is aimed at strengthening environmental governance and protecting public health from multiple environmental risks, including excessive noise pollution in urban areas.
As part of the expanded initiative, the EMC technical team conducted real-time noise level assessments at the DHA Phase 5 Commercial Market in Lahore. Using specialized monitoring equipment, officials recorded ambient decibel levels to identify high-noise zones and evaluate compliance with prescribed sound quality standards.
According to the EPA, the enhanced monitoring programme will help authorities assess environmental conditions more comprehensively and support evidence-based measures to reduce noise pollution while maintaining healthy urban environments.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to promoting cleaner air and quieter surroundings, emphasizing that effective monitoring and enforcement are essential to improving environmental quality and public health across Lahore.
