ISLAMABAD: The Emergency Response Committee (ERC), established on the directions of the Prime Minister to oversee national preparedness and coordinated response during Monsoon 2026, held its fourth meeting at the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC) at the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Headquarters in Islamabad on Thursday.
The meeting was chaired virtually by Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Professor Ahsan Iqbal. Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar and Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan also joined via video link.
Federal Minister for Water Resources Mian Muhammad Mueen Wattoo, Minister of State for National Food Security and Research Malik Rasheed Ahmad Khan, NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, senior NDMA officials, representatives of relevant federal ministries, provincial disaster management authorities (PDMAs), and other key stakeholders attended the meeting.
The committee reviewed the implementation of preparedness measures undertaken by provincial authorities to deal with the ongoing monsoon season. Provincial disaster management authorities also briefed participants on the availability of relief supplies, emergency communication systems, evacuation plans and inter-agency coordination mechanisms.
Chairing the session, Professor Ahsan Iqbal appreciated the efforts of all participating institutions and emphasised the importance of seamless coordination among response agencies to enable timely decision-making and the rapid mobilisation of resources during emergencies.
The meeting reaffirmed the Emergency Response Committee’s commitment to strengthening national coordination and ensuring a unified response mechanism to protect lives, livelihoods and critical infrastructure throughout the 2026 monsoon season.
