BankIslami’s aik rolls out cashless payment system at Islamabad airport

ISLAMABAD — aik, the digital payments platform of BankIslami Pakistan Limited, has introduced a fully cashless payment system at Islamabad International Airport, enabling passengers and visitors to make digital transactions across the airport.

According to officials, merchants operating at the airport have been integrated into the platform, with QR codes deployed at retail outlets, food courts, service counters and other passenger touchpoints. The system allows travelers to complete transactions without cash while ensuring secure and Shariah-compliant processing.

The rollout has been implemented in accordance with regulatory guidelines set by the State Bank of Pakistan. Officials described the initiative as a model for broader adoption of cashless infrastructure in public facilities across the country.

An event marking the deployment was held at the airport, attended by representatives of BankIslami, airport management, and the central bank.

Ashfaque Ahmed, Chief Officer at aik, said the initiative is designed to improve efficiency and transparency in daily transactions at a major national transit hub. He added that expanding digital payment systems contributes to financial inclusion and supports Pakistan’s transition toward modern financial infrastructure.

By digitizing payment operations at Islamabad International Airport, BankIslami aims to expand access to secure digital financial services while promoting wider adoption of electronic transactions nationwide.
