RAWALPINDI: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, visited the National Defence University (NDU), Islamabad, on Tuesday, where he interacted with civil and military participants of the National Security and War Course.
During the visit, course participants briefed the field marshal on their academic assessments of challenges to national security and policy imperatives for addressing them.
Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir outlines multi-domain security environment
In his interaction, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir described the global, regional, and internal security environment as complex and evolving. He said the country faces challenges across conventional, sub-conventional, intelligence, cyber, information, military, and economic domains, requiring coordinated, multi-domain preparedness.

Focus on indirect threats and decision-making
The field marshal said hostile actors increasingly rely on indirect and ambiguous approaches, including the use of proxies to exploit internal vulnerabilities. He emphasized the need for future leaders to recognize and respond to layered and cognitive challenges in a rapidly changing security landscape.
He also highlighted the importance of clarity in decision-making and intellectual resilience when operating under conditions of uncertainty.
Professional military education discussed
Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir referred to the role of professional military education in developing strategic thinking and institutional capacity. He said such education supports informed policy formulation and operational planning in complex security environments.
The field marshal was received at NDU by the president of the university.
