Prof. Dr. Muhammad Azam Khan, a distinguished faculty member from the Department of Horticulture at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR), has been honored with the Gold Medal Award by the Pakistan Academy of Sciences (PAS) in recognition of his outstanding contributions to agricultural research.

The award was conferred upon him by Prof. Dr. Kauser Abdullah Malik, President of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences, during a dignified ceremony held in Islamabad. The President congratulated Prof. Dr. Azam Khan and lauded his remarkable achievements and long-standing commitment to advancing horticultural science in Pakistan.
Leading role in horticulture research
Dr. Azam Khan is recognized among the country’s leading agricultural scientists for his pioneering work in horticulture. Over the course of his illustrious career, he has led numerous national and international research projects, contributing significantly to the development of Pakistan’s horticultural sector.
New fruit and vegetable varieties introduced
His research has resulted in the introduction of six new fruit and vegetable varieties, which had a notable impact on productivity and sustainability in the field.
Administrative and research leadership roles
In addition to his research contributions, Prof. Dr. Azam Khan has also served in various key administrative and research leadership roles, including as Director General of the National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC).
Innovations patented by IPO Pakistan
His two agricultural innovations have been officially patented by the Intellectual Property Organization (IPO) of Pakistan, reflecting his ingenuity and dedication to scientific innovation.
