The United States has imposed sanctions on Karim Khan, the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), for issuing arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
According to a statement from the U.S. Department of the Treasury, Karim Khan will be barred from entering the United States.
The statement further mentioned that Karim Khan’s assets in the U.S. will also be frozen.
These sanctions were imposed under an executive order issued by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who had also introduced legislation for this purpose.
However, the Democrat-majority Senate had rejected the bill, forcing Trump to implement it through an executive order.
With the enforcement of this bill, financial and visa restrictions were legally imposed on ICC personnel and their families involved in investigations against American citizens and U.S. allies.
Trump was particularly angered by the ICC’s actions after Karim Khan issued arrest warrants for Israeli leaders over war crimes in Gaza.
