Peshawar: The ICC Champions Trophy was given a warm welcome in Peshawar. The trophy was first delivered to the University of Peshawar, where Vice Chancellor of the University of Peshawar, Professor Dr. Muhammad Naeem Qazi, Secretary Public Health Dawood Khan, Director Sports Peshawar University Bahr Karram, teachers and local players attended the trophy launch ceremony. The students took many pictures with the trophy and thanked the relevant authorities including the Chairman PCB. On this occasion, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Peshawar said that the revival of international cricket after many years is welcome. According to him, everyone has played a role in the revival of cricket, for which he thanks everyone. The students said on this occasion that they watched the trophy live and took pictures, which is a memorable moment. After Peshawar University, the trophy was delivered to Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium. Where Deputy Director Sports Mir Bashar Khan, Director Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium Saleem Raza, President Peshawar District Association Asghar Khan, Secretary AIPS Asia Senior Journalist Amjad Aziz Malik, Regional Sports Officer Kashif Farhan, students, local cricket coaches and others attended. On this occasion, Saleem Mirza said that the construction work on the Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium building is going on at a fast pace. And the work on it will be completed soon. He said that the government is trying to complete the work on it during the next two months so that the people here also get entertainment opportunities.
It should be noted that the Pakistan tour of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 started from the historic Hiran Minar Complex in Sheikhupura. In this journey, the trophy will be taken to ten different cities of Pakistan in 14 days.
The trophy’s global journey ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 began in Pakistan on November 16, after which the trophy was taken to seven other participating countries from November 26 to January 26. In this second phase, apart from Sheikhupura, the trophy will be taken to Bahawalpur, Faisalabad, Hyderabad, Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Peshawar and Quetta. The trophy will also be seen at the newly upgraded Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore during the opening match of the tri-nation series between Pakistan and New Zealand on February 8. The trophy tour will conclude in Karachi on February 14. The opening match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is scheduled to be played between hosts Pakistan and New Zealand on February 19.
