Google is preparing to launch its mobile payment system, Google Wallet (also known as Google Pay), in Pakistan.
The company has announced that it plans to introduce this payment system in January 2025, marking a significant step forward in digital payments in the country. The announcement was made on the company’s developer page, stating that Google Wallet will be launched in 16 countries, including Pakistan. The service is set to launch in Egypt, Pakistan, and Venezuela in January 2025.
Launched in 2011, Google Wallet is a digital wallet that allows users to securely store their debit or credit card details and make payments directly from their Android phones. Users can also store boarding passes, event tickets, ID cards, and more in the wallet.
In essence, everything you typically carry in a physical wallet can be stored in Google Wallet. To use the service, you need to install the Google Wallet app, log in to your Google account, and add payment methods such as a credit or debit card. Once at least one card is added, you can make mobile payments at stores using Google Wallet.
How Secure Is It?
Google Wallet is considered more secure than using a traditional debit or credit card. Payments made through Google Wallet are encrypted, meaning that each transaction uses a unique code to send payment information. Even if someone gains access to this data, it is useless as it doesn’t contain card details.
Moreover, users can make contactless payments directly from their smartphones, eliminating the need to carry a physical card, reducing the risk of losing it or having it stolen.
