ChatGPT’s artificial intelligence (AI)-driven search engine is now accessible to all users. OpenAI made this announcement, stating that the search engine, which was initially introduced in October 2024, is now available to free-tier ChatGPT users.
Earlier, the company had announced that the search engine would only be available to paid subscribers of ChatGPT, offering real-time information. However, it has now been made available to free-tier users as well.
To use the search engine, users will need to create an account and log into ChatGPT. The search engine has also been enhanced, with a user interface on mobile that now resembles traditional search engines.
If you’re looking for a specific location, such as a hotel or a well-known spot, ChatGPT will display a list of results, complete with images, ratings, and operating hours. Clicking on a location will provide further details, and users can view map directions directly within the app.
The addition of web search to ChatGPT enhances its competitiveness against AI chatbots like Microsoft’s Copilot and Google Gemini, which have access to real-time internet data. This search engine is powered by the GPT-4 AI model.
