A man who fell off a cargo ship miraculously survived after drifting in the sea for almost 24 hours.
According to media reports, the man, whose identity has not been revealed, was rescued about 3 kilometers off a coast south of Newcastle, almost 24 hours after falling into the sea.
The man, believed to be in his 20s, fell from the ship at around 11:30 PM, approximately 8 kilometers off the coast of Newcastle. He was rescued by a fisherman who spotted him waving his arms near Blacksmiths Beach, close to Swansea, at around 6:20 PM the following day.
Initial reports suggested that the man had swum several kilometers to reach the shore.
A spokesperson for the local ambulance service stated that the man, who was wearing a life jacket, had spent nearly 24 hours in the water. He was conscious and able to communicate, though he was exhausted and silently relieved to be alive.
The spokesperson added that the man’s youth likely helped him endure the ordeal. He didn’t complain and seemed content simply to be alive.
