The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) have reached an agreement to replace the current governor of Sindh, Kamran Tesori.
According to sources, the PML-N plans to appoint a new governor from among its own ranks, with provincial president Bashir Memon emerging as a strong contender for the role. Consultations are underway between the two parties to finalize Memon’s appointment.
However, the PPP has raised some reservations about Memon’s nomination and alternative candidates for the post of governor are also being considered. Attaullah Tarar, PML-N spokesman, said he was not aware of specific details regarding these discussions.
The change in leadership is expected to take place in the coming days, reflecting the ongoing negotiations and party dynamics in Pakistani politics.
MQM reacts to change of Sindh governor
The planned reshuffle of Sindh’s governor has created confusion and concern within the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
Sources in the MQM said the party was taken aback by the news of the governor’s replacement, which they got to know from television news rather than official channels.
The MQM expressed its surprise and said it was not consulted or informed about the decision in advance. They believe that key decisions such as changing the governor should involve discussions and consultations with coalition partners, including PML-N allies.
In a related development, Federal Minister Khalid Maqbool accompanied the Prime Minister during his visit to Karachi today. The MQM emphasizes the need for greater transparency and consultation on important political decisions, especially those affecting the governance of Sindh.
