Riyadh: More than 550 pilgrims died due to extreme heat in Mecca, including 320 from Egypt, 144 from Indonesia, 60 from Jordan, 11 from Iran and 3 from Senegal.
According to an international news agency, the largest morgue in Mecca claimed 550 bodies, most of whom died due to the intense heat.
Saudi authorities reported that around 2,000 pilgrims are currently being treated in various hospitals for heat-related illnesses. Concerns are growing over the number of pilgrims who have lost their lives.
The international news agency “AFP” reported that the number of deaths among pilgrims rose to 577.
It should be remembered that 240 pilgrims died during the Hajj season last year due to the hot weather, most of them Indonesians.
