Australia defeated Scotland in a tight match at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium to book their place in the Super 8 of the 2024 T20 World Cup against defending champions England.
Australia’s strategic decision to field first after the win paid off as they restricted Scotland to 180-5 in the required 20 overs.
Brandon McMullen emerged as Scotland’s best performer, smashing 60 off just 34 balls, with two fours and six towering sixes. Captain Richie Berrington’s unbeaten 42 and George Munsey’s 35 boosted Scotland’s total.
In response, Australia’s top order built a solid foundation led by Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh. Despite losing wickets, Marcus Stoinis and Tim David steered the ship as Australia took the target.
A massive effort saw Australia reach 181-5 in 18.4 overs and record their fourth consecutive win in the tournament.
The result not only pushed Australia into the Super 8s, but also delighted England, who progressed with a high-scoring win over Scotland.
After a mixed group performance, England can now focus on the next round of the tournament, under tight control.
